Use Class Order Changes
Andrew has interviewed Linda Wright of Planitwright on the latest announcements to the Use Class Order. Described by many as potentially car crash planning.
The most radical changes to the Use Classes Order in 30 years have been published in a ‘let the market decide’ shake up of the planning system. New legislation as it relates to, in particular, the High Street and changes of use and permitted development rights were laid before Parliament on 21 July 2020. The amendments come into force on 1 September 2020.
The aim is to support the recovery and reimagination of High Street and towns post Covid19 and to think flexibly. The changes will allow far greater flexibility to changes of use in town centres without the need for planning permission. It will make Councils’ current ‘retention of shop frontage’ policies redundant.
